Biography

Following the completion of my BEng (Hons)/ MEng degrees in biomedical engineering and Masters of Business and Technology at Flinders University, South Australia, I re-joined Cochlear LTD (Sydney) as a Research Engineer. My work used electro-anatomical models of the implanted cochlea to predict current spread, this followed on from my Masters project that was also based at Cochlear. This work investigated intra-cochlear electrode array designs for ideal performance in treating sensorineural hearing loss and using real time impedance measures as a surgical diagnosis tool. In 2015 I joined the Adaptive Brain Lab, as a Marie Curie early stage researcher. My work uses fMRI to track changes in functional connectivity throughout learning. Concurrently I am investigating factors leading to healthy cognitive ageing using machine learning techniques.

Away from the lab I enjoy exploring Cambridge and Europe and playing sports.

Joseph is a student at Magdalene College.

Research

My research interests are in modelling multisensory perception to design sensory prosthetics with a holistic sensory approach, while keeping in consideration socio-economic barriers to innovation. The aim of my research is to generate models to innovate medical devices that achieve ideal, demographic specific, sensory performance.
